NEKA Bar + Shop

A simple, modern design for the small wine bar-shop NEKA Bar + Shop, created around the concept of enhancing wine culture through tastings of a regularly updated selection of wines from around the world, served by the glass in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

The bar is located in the courtyard behind one of Belgrade’s busy central streets. The space originally had a mezzanine, a glass staircase, and a column, which the owners wanted to integrate into the new interior. Our aim was to keep and highlight the coziness and seclusion of the place.

Lighting is focused on the bar area, with a counter featuring a practical dark countertop and a unique illuminated cork front, framed below by a brass base. It is designed so that all connection points are hidden. The kitchen backsplash, made to look like steel cabinet fronts, is covered with small handmade ceramic tiles in warm honey tones. The first floor is laid with patterned terrazzo in a creamy base color.

Above the bar, under the high ceiling, there is a mezzanine with intimate tables and large shelves for horizontal wine display in an industrial-chic style. The mezzanine ceiling was stripped of its traditional reed-and-plaster covering to reveal the rhythmic pattern of the raw structure, bringing more volume to the space. The mezzanine floor is made of plywood tiles with thin, sealed gaps to prevent deformation from the light steel structure underneath. The wood also improves acoustic comfort, which is important for a space designed for conversation.

The wall intersected by the airy staircase features an abstract mural by the talented artist duo hoo_do, inspired by the idea of a wine terroir. Large earthy and clay-colored shapes, splashes of contrasting accents, and thin terracotta lines invite guests to experience wine through associations and feelings.

Tall windows have high sills adapted for seating with steel footrests, increasing guest space and allowing for more relaxed conversation scenarios.

A warm, moderately contrasting color palette and soft lighting create an elegant, relaxing, and slightly intimate atmosphere with a focus on wine.
